Snow shoveling is a repetitive activity that can cause muscle strain in the lower back and shoulders.
Physical therapists suggest that you wait until the afternoon to shovel because your chances of injury are greater in the morning when there is more fluid pressure in the disc. Also, lift smaller loads and bend your knees as you lift, so your legs are taking the load, not your back.

Notice to Patients:
Direct Access Law Passes in NYS

As of 11/23/06 it became legal for a physical therapist with 3 years of experience to treat a patient without a referral from a physician, nurse practitioner, dentist or podiatrist. (All of the therapists at Lamarco Physical Therapy have well over 3 years of experience.) Treatment, not including evaluation, can proceed for 10 visits or 30 days whichever comes first before a referral must be obtained to continue physical therapy treatment. However, all No-fault patients will continue to need a referral for payment from day one.
